Power of the Pixel

By Nathaniel Rhine

More is not necessarily better. Because digital camera advertisements make a big deal about mega pixels, one may be tempted to rush out and buy the camera that has the highest pixel count. Not a wise move, actually.

First, one need to know that more pixels are not necessarily the key to better pictures. Rather, the size of the sensor on which the pixel live also play a vital role in the quality of photographs.

Moreover, larger, high-end cameras tend to have bigger sensors than pocket-sized point-and-shoot models. By cramming more pixels onto a smaller sensor can actually have a detrimental effect on picture quality.

Logically, if one were to put the same amount of pixels onto a large sensor and a smaller sensor, the camera with the larger sensor typically produces better images.

Pixel count is only one factor contributing to picture quality; other factors such as lens quality are also critical.

There is much more to learn so I encourage you to follow my posts closely. Thank you for your time.
